Rafale F3R vs F-16C/D: RSAF and IAF plans Joint Military Training later this year

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) are planning to conduct Joint Military Training (JMT) at Kalaikunda Air Force Station, India, sometime from October to December, where The RSAF will deploy F-16C/D fighter aircraft to train alongside the IAF’s SU-30MKI and Rafale F3R fighter aircraft. The 11th edition of the JMT will allow aircrew from both air forces to hone their operational skills and enhance interoperability through high-end training such as Air Combat and Mission-Oriented Training. Through the training, interactions, and bonding activities, an aircrew from both forces can forge strong friendships and bonds through each iteration of the exercise. Recently Four Rafale fighters of the French Air Force participated in joint exercises with the Indian Air Force’s Golden Arrows Squadron that was resurrected in September last year with the induction of the Rafale fighter jets. Indian and French Rafale fighter jets practiced long-range Beyond visual range air-to-air combat for the first time, where the electronic launch of Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) was practiced between both airforce’s. Interestingly RSAF operates both F-16 and the AIM-120 C5/C7 AMRAAM BVRAAM that Pakistan Air Force (PAF) operates and in previous JMT between RSAF F-16s and IAF’s SU-30MKI crew allowed IAF to develop counter strategies to avoid AMRAAMs at long-range dogfights that came handy in 2019 when PAF F-16 tried to shoot down Su-30MKI after Balakot Strikes but failed to do so after pilots employed superior maneuverability and chaff and flares. It is expected that both RSAF and IAF will carryout long-range air to air combat operations to practice their Beyond VisualRange dogfights in JMT too.
