Meet HAL's "CATS Warrior" Indian Unmanned Wingman Drone

State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which has tied up with Bengaluru-based startup NewSpace Research and Technologies is showcasing at Aero India 2021, a 1:1 full-scale model of the Stealthy Combat Air Teaming System (CATS) Warrior Unmanned Wingman Drone which will fight alongside IAF fighters like Tejas Mk1A and Jaguar to hit high-value enemy targets. Pictures coming from the Aero India 2021, confirms that CATS Warrior will have two side internal weapons bay that can carry one 125kg Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) precision-guided anti-airfield weapon each as its payload. SAAW can be used to target enemy airfields, army installations, radar sites, and enemy surface-to-air missile launchers. Future variants will be able to carry beyond visual range air to air missiles that will guard manned command fighter jets like Tejas Mk1A or Jaguar and can also be used to take down unmanned aerial vehicle. CATS Warrior drone will also reduce potential casualties when they’re on strike missions over enemy airspace and also come in handy in case of a counter strike package comes after the manned command fighter jet. CATS Warrior drone will have a radar and sensors suite that will coordinate with its manned command fighter jet to assign specific tasks to each of the unmanned drones which fly alongside the fighter. CATS Warrior drone will be powered by a HAL aero PTAE-7 turbojet engine and will be cost less than $5 million.
