HAL started manufacturing 5 of the LSP LCH from its funds while it waits for the final contract before it deliveries the remaining 12 helicopters of the LSP in the next financial year. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had approved the proposal for the initial batch of 15 LCHs, 10 for the IAF and five for the army.
LCH is the world’s lightest multi-role attack helicopter, with the highest flight ceiling. Two light combat helicopter prototypes, produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, have been deployed in the Ladakh sector to support the Indian Air Force at short notice amid the border row with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
