On Wednesday, the Delhi Police had alleged that farmer leaders had given inflammatory speeches and took part in the violence witnessed during the tractor parade.
New Delhi: Delhi Police personnel, who had to face violent protesters during the Republic Day farmers’ tractor rally, were on Thursday appreciated by the force’s chief. In a letter written to the entire staff, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava said the police personnel present on the streets on January 26 showed “great patience”.
The police chief noted that “challenging days” lie ahead for the force and they have to remain alert, patient and disciplined.
"You showed great patience despite the farmers' agitation turning violent... 394 of our friends were injured in the violence and some are in hospital. I met some of them, they are being given proper treatment.
“I would like to tell you that the coming days can be very challenging for us. So, we will have to be alert. We will have to remain patient and disciplined. I thank you for your patience and restraint,” the Police Commissioner said in the letter, written in Hindi.
The letter came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited two hospitals here to speak to the policemen injured in Tuesday’s violence.
"Meeting the injured Delhi Police personnel. We are proud of their courage and bravery," Shah tweeted.
The Home Minister was accompanied by Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Delhi Police Commissioner Shrivastava.
Yesterday, the Delhi Police had alleged that farmer leaders had given inflammatory speeches and took part in the violence witnessed during the tractor parade. The police warned that it will not spare any culprit.
