the chief executive officer of sss defense has said that the company has developed a fully functioning 7.62 by 51 millimeter sniper rifle that matches indian army's current requirement of 1.2 kilometers range and it will be put through a formalized series of trials across all types of environment by the end of this year the viper has been ergonomically designed by taking into consideration the height of the indian soldier as well as length of the arm and finger and is available with all types of customizations and heads-up display he also said that the foreign manufacturers keep the best variants for their own forces and tend to deliver the second or the third grade snipers to the foreign customers he also said that the russian ak-203 is not a best rifle for a modern military force and russia has developed the ak-12 and ak-15 for its armed forces and russia wouldn't give such technologies to India he also added that sss defense is also working on a new variant of 7.62 by 39 millimeters rifle that is more advanced than the ak-203 the indian private sector firm has started the work to build an 80000 square feet facility which will be capable to manufacture 15 000 rifles per year in the first phase in january 2021 and the capacity will then increase to 45 000 per year in the second phase in january 2022 and 80 000 per year in the third phase the firm has also acquired an 80 acre plot for an ammunition factory and will produce and offer the 7.62 by 39 millimeters ammunition at a much cheaper price as compared to the ones offered by ordinance factories for the 7.5 lakh ak 203 that will be produced in India the sss development team is also planning to develop lmg that will use both 7.6 by 51 millimeters and 0.338 so that the same ammunition can be used in lmgs and sniper rifles
