Throwback: When PM Modi Visited Kargil To Meet Armed Forces In 1999

On the 21st anniversary of India’s victory over their neighboring country Pakistan in Kargil war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took this as an opportunity to address the nation through his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat.

In his address, he paid tributes to the armed forces and the family of armed forces for their courage and valor to defend the country’s territory. In the address, Prime Minister recalled his visit to Kargil during the Kargil war in 1999. At that time, Narendra Modi was working for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Prime Minister shared pictures of his visit and wrote,

“During the Kargil War in 1999, I had the opportunity to go to Kargil and show solidarity with our brave soldiers. This was the time when I was working for my Party in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Himachal Pradesh. The visit to Kargil and interactions with soldiers are unforgettable.”

PM Remembers Atal Bihari Vajpayee

In the address, he also remembered the former Prime Minister of India who was in position during the Kargil war, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. As a part of Vajpayee’s Independence Day speech in 1999, he said that the Kargil War has given us another mantra. Prime Minister Modi also reminded the nation of Pakistan’s backstabbing. He said,

“India was then trying to have cordial relations with Pakistan but as it is said it is the nature of wicked to have enmity with everyone for no reason. People of such nature think evil even of those who do good to them. That is why in response to India’s friendly endeavors Pakistan tried to backstab. But the world witnessed the valor and strength of India’s brave forces.”
