India To Build World’s Highest Railway Bridge In Chenab (J&K) That Will Surpass China’s Shulbai

Indian Railways will soon have the world’s largest railway bridge which will surpass the record of China’s Beipan river Shulbai railway bridge.

The development of the bridge is underway and is going to be 1.315 km long and is built above the Chenab river. The Chenab bridge is built at a height of 359 meters in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge is likely to connect the most remote parts of Jammu and Kashmir with mainland India. The bridge is being built on the Katra-Banihal railway line at the village Kauri in the Reasi district.

In breathtaking news, the officials have revealed that the bridge will be 30 meters higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. As per Konkan Railways, this is India’s most challenging project in the post-independence India. The bridge is likely to be completed by the month of December next year.

WWhy it is an engineering marvel ??

The bridge, when completed, will form the crucial link in the 111km stretch between Katra and Banihal. In the project, there are a total of 1,400 men who are working on the project day and night to complete it on time. As mentioned earlier, the bridge is 35 meters taller than the famous Eiffel Tower in France. The pillars of the bridge have been designed to withstand explosions. The bridge can withstand speeds up to 260kmph and has a lifespan of 120 years.

It is going to be the seventh-largest arch-shaped bridge in the world. The project of the Chenab bridge was declared a national project in the year 2002. According to reports, the Indian Railways is looking to host bungee jumping and many exciting sports at the bridge. The bridge will cost over 12,000 crore rupees and is built with 62 mm thick special blast-proof steel.
